Smith

tried to re-install XP Pro, as the system had bedome
unstable.
Win XP starts the install, and then gives me this error
message: "STOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error
C:\Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll"

This is what I have tried so far:

Format of hard drive - No problem
Scandisk - no errors
Surface scan - no errors
Installed an old copy of Windows 98 - worked fine
Tried a friend's copy in case my CD was bad - same error
message
Re-formatted - ok
Re-scandisk - ok
Re-surface scan - ok
Even did a checkdisk!

Knowledge base entries for that message have not helped,
as they just say to extract the file from the CD, well
mine IS from my CD.

What else can I do? Been at this for over a week, please
help!

TIA!

Maybe a bad cd drive, not reading the whole program.
.

How can I test that? I do have another CDRW installed in
this PC, but how would I tell it to boot from it?

Take the CD-ROM that is in question out and just use your other cd-rw. You might have to change the jumpers.
