Install'n XP Pro:
Inspecting drive okay;
F6 to install SCSI Controller okay;
Starting Windows: 28 minutes ... oops!

This can't be normal, can it? W2K installs completely in like 20-30 minutes.

The rest of the install is probably tolerable, but the starting windows
screen in W2K loads forth with. Can anyone say what might be going on with
that? Thanks!

Not understanding what you are saying/asking.

You are saying it took 28 minutes to install Windows XP and you see this as
too long to install? Even though you state that Windows 2000 (which has
less features and is, thusly, smaller in size) takes 20-30 minutes?

Did you leave something out?

Thanks for pointing out my ambiguity. I'll try again.

Installing XP Pro:
First operation: Inspecting drive ... no complaint;
Second Operation: F6 to install SCSI Controller ... no complaint;
Third Operation: Starting Windows (blue screen, DOS text) ... 28 minutes;
Forth Operation: Actually start windows;

with supposedly 34 minutes left to install although actually takes about 45
to 50 minutes more. About an hour and a half for the complete install start
to finish, while it takes W2K 20-30 minutes for a complete install start to
finish.

The only part that seems that unreasonable is the 28 minutes waiting on the
blue Starting Windows screen. In W2k that window takes a few seconds to
finish as opposed to 28 minutes in XP and I have seen the same thing several
times. Just wonder'n if there's someth'n I'm missing. Even trying to run a
repair or anything else requires that same 28 minute delay, which I've never
seen on any Windows OS back to 3.1. Not sure if XP has Adaptec 19160 SCSI
controller drivers that it will load automatically, but that's the only thing
I do that most everyone else doesn't : use F6 to load the controller but that
operation by itself is as fast as in W2K. Stumped on why the 28 minutes to do
something W2K does in a few seconds. Sorry I didn't clearly state the
problem. Hope this explanation is a bit clearer. Thanks!

Update:
Think the problem was with my CD/RW. Installed XP on my other system and it
installed forth with; least as fast as W2K. I'm guessing the 28 minute stall
is attributable to a CD/RW read although I'm not going to reinstall it to be
sure ... well ... got'a save some things for later ... probably after I
forget why, no doubt. Thanks fellas!
