I have win 98os and trying to install xp pro, keep getting error about
hardware when trying install. Have old mustek scanner and not so old
canon printer. What do I do to finish the install.

Hi wildmac,

1) Check that there are drivers for the devices available from the
manufacturer that are WinXP compatible. If there are, download them and copy
to CD or other removable media.

2) Disconnect those devices from the system.

3) Perform the upgrade.

4) If there are drivers available, reconnect the devices and install them
according to the hardware maker's instructions. If not, do not bother
reconnecting them as they are unlikely to work properly and will wind up
causing conflicts on your system.

Disconnect printer & scanner before installing XP.
I have an older Mustek scanner and was able to get it to work in XP by using
Win2k drivers and a utility called FIXWINXP, both from Mustek site.
For the Canon printer look on Canon support site for XP drivers, if none
there may be worth trying Win2k drivers.
