I have a new AMD 2500+ based computer that uses XP Pro
and a P3 500 Dell Dimension that has W98SE. Both
computers have Norton Inernet Security 2003 and Norton
virus software loaded. I currently have the two PCs
networked via a Linksys BEFSR41 router which also
provides independent broadband internet access via a
Linksys BEFCMU10 modem. I could not ping the new machine
when Internet Connection Firewall is active on the XP Pro
macnine. Since the router is a hardware firewall and I
am running a software firewall on each machine, is there
any reason to be concerned about not running Internet
Connection Firewall on the XP Pro machine?

P.S. The Dell cannot be upgraded to a newer operating
system since Dell will not provide updated drivers for
the proprietary/custom hardware they have in the machine.

Dave;
Internet connection Firewall is not intended for home networking and
should be disabled in this case.
You already have a superior firewall so you will lose nothing by
disabling the ICF.

Jupiter,
Thanks for the confirmation that I am not making a
mistake. With all the mallicious issues going on, I just
want to keep things clean.

Dave
