I am writing this in much frustration. I have actually
had thoughts of putting a hammer through my computer, but
alas have not resorted to that as of yet Anyways, the
problem I am having is that after shutting down my
computer a week ago it now hangs on startup. I have never
had any problems with it, and did not install any new
hardware or software before the shutdown. I have XP Pro,
purchased and installed as an upgrade from WIN2K a year
ago with no problems. Now I have done some searching and
have found theories as to my problem which include a bad
USB device (unlugged the only one I had, and optical
mouse with no luck), bad PCI card (unplugged all except
video card, with no luck), starting in safe mode
(computer gets to mup.sys and hangs), and last needing to
reinstall windows. OK, so I can't exactly do that,
because as weird and unbelievable as this may sound, my
puppy got ahold of my software CD's while I was at work
one day and had some fun. Microsoft support wants my XP
product ID to help with my request, but since my computer
hangs on startup I can not get into it to get the ID. So
I am in a stale mate at the moment. any help would be
great, I will also answer any more questions I can to be
helpful. Thank you for your help.
