xp pro hangs at moving blue squares

XP Pro frequently hangs at logo with moving blue
squares.If I turn computer off and back on it will start
up okPlease suggest a fix or troubleshooting method to
find problem.Please reply to (e-mail address removed) am
just learning to use newsgroups and might miss fix in
newsgroup.Computer has Soyo mb 256 mb memory.I'd
appreciate any help.New to XP Pro.

Does this happen every time you boot, or only when the system starts from a
cold boot (meaning it has been shut down for a time)?

Are you sure that it is hanging. Every once in a while it
can be quite lenthy at this stage. Not every time.
