Hi,

I am currently using XP Pro with a CDR and DVDR drive and whenever I put a
cd /dvd in the dvd drive Almost every time Xp Just freezes and I cannot do
anything at all and have to restart my PC, so only thing I can do is open
the drive door on the other one though.

I have updated to the latest firmware and drivers but still no luck. I have
used both of these drives on my old pc with no problems however I have just
brought a new pc and had these drives put in and now having problems. All
help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Brendpn.

I didn't notice in your message where you mentioned the breed of mainboard
you have this problem with, but these hints should be pretty basic to any
computer.

Try going into the device manager and uninstall the optical devices. Then
reboot the thing and see how it acts. You may also want to check to see if
UDMA is enabled on the ide controller for the drives. I doubt that if the
cdrom is running in pio mode that it would cause xp to crap out though.
Stranger things have happened using Bill's software.

Since these drives were housed in another box previously, you may want to
double check the master/slave configurations to be sure you are current with
the new OS.

Check your bios setup to be sure UDMA is enabled for your ide controllers
too...

I know the ABIT KG7 has issues with a cdrom being on ide1 as master if using
an old bios version, before 5E if memory serves correctly.
