I running a dual pentium (xeon) 1 gig of memory; nividia
128 g force video card. XP pro with service pack 1 plus
hot fixes. This just started happening. XP Pro freezes
(the little bar stops) on start up. I'll shut the system
(turn off power nothing else works) down. Restart...put in
the safe mode. I'll restart from there and it will work.
I have tried everything. I have all the latest video
drivers etc. There are no erro messages to speak of and I
have everything shut down on start-up that I don't need.
The computer company can't even figure it out. Is there
any thing besides a complete reinstall of xp pro that will
work!

thanks

Have you checked to see if you have a corrupt boot path or Master Boot Record? go>start\run and type in msconfig and click ok. Now click the boot.ini tab and then the check all boot paths button. You may also want to try typing in cmd and then typing in chkdsk /r and let the system check for disk errors and repair them. Be sure to put the space before the /r . r is the repair parameter so it will automatically fix any errors it encounters. You can also go>start\run and type in sfc /scannow and have your disk ready. This will scan for any missing or corrupt OS files by comparing the ones on your system with the originals found on the disk. Last but not least if none of that works then go>start\run and type in cmd and hit ok. Now type in fixmbr and let it fix the master boot record. See if any of the above help. Let us know or e:mail me if you need further assistance. Good luck.
