I have heard that with XP Pro OEM you can install on two
machines. However I can't find anything @ Microsoft that
supports this claim. Any one know the real truth?

Thanks!

Hi, No. One licenses=One machines. There will be nothing on any Microsoft
site that support it, because it's not true. :)

In addition, OEM copies can not even be transferred to another computer.
they are bound to the first PC they are installed on.

The real truth is that you've heard wrong. Home or Professional,
retail or OEM, the rule is the same, and quite clear. It's one
copy (or one license) for each computer.

There's nothing new here. This is exactly the same rule that's
been in effect on every version of Windows starting with Windows
3.1. The only thing new with XP is that there's now an
enforcement mechanism.

Both OEM and retail versions of Windows XP come with
just one (1) license which entitles you to install it on one (1)
computer only. The "retail version" of "Microsoft Office XP"
can be installed on two computers, a desktop and a notebook.
That's probably what you heard.

Oh no it can't, if you want to be in compliance with the EULA unless you
have two licenses......

Greetings --

You heard wrong. You need to have one license for each computer.

As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems,
it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA, if not
technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each computer on which
it is installed. The only way in which WinXP licensing differs from
that of earlier versions of Windows is that Microsoft has finally
added a copy protection and anti-theft mechanism, Product Activation,
to prevent (or at least make more difficult) multiple installations
using a single license.
