First let me be clear I am a noobie / hobbyist when it comes to building and
programming computers so please be patient with me.

I'm having a problem with my computer rig. Recently received a small multi
drive unit. At first everything worked flawlessly. Now Xp is creating
duplicate or mirroring the drives in the small multi drive unit. So instead
of having 5 drives it's listing 10 in the windows explorer.

I went into computer management window and entered the drive management
screen. All five are listed and are not duplicated. How can I get XP to
recognize only the five drives without having to wipe the drives, backing up
by buying a external drive, or canning the drives all together. Problem is
there is a ton of data on each drive. I don't want to lose the data?

A friend explained it may be the raid parameters are off. However when in
the bios I can't find the screen letting me adjust it.

Here's my specs at a glance

Master unit:

Biostar m7ncd motherboard
AMD athlon 2200 cpu
1.5 gig ram
hp 420n rw-dvd
generic rw-dvd
XFX geforce 5500 128mb
audicy platinum ex
adaptec 160 pin scsi adapter

slave unit:

5 multiple drives 30-75gig each
separate power source

With respect , if you are a noobie ; why a raid array ?

1st read the owners manual. Then chk out the pc BIOS & confirm that
RAID is activated, plus set to use with IDE devices if you have them.Once
thru,on all pc starts and pc restarts, the RAID utility is shown, press the
correct keys & enter it.Also, since RAID probably isnt running, once youve
set the pc for it,install the RAID software, this gives all the settings for
you
to see + you'll need the drivers for xp...
