Hello

This is a tough one - thanks for every hint !

I have an xp pro machine configured as ICS client (via hub) of a dual nic win2k machine. The win2k machine connects via VPN to an ADSL modem.

Now, when the xp client browse, it will show only pages with no SSL/HTTPS or login/password pages. It hangs infinitely on any https page, or a login page. At some of these events there is a system event logged in the event logger, event ID 10010, "server did not register with DCOM within the timeout required".

I have tried the following:

This does not happen when the xp machine connects directly to the ADSL modem.

It does not happen to a third win2k machine configured also as an ICS client that connects simultaneously to the ICS host.

It does not happen when I reversed the order, meaning set the XP machine as ICS host with two nics, and used the win2k as an ICS client.

The XP machine had Norton Antivirus 2003 and ZonaAlarm Pro installed, and it was working for some time without a problem when connected directly to the ADSL modem. When I changed that configuration to use the Win2k ICS Gateway,
trouble started. I uninstalled both security products completely according to their vendors instructions but to no effect.

I was reading that MTU size may cause problems via ICS, so I reduced the MTU according to some Microsoft Knowledge base artice to 1470, then 1370, then 1200. No effect.

I removed ICS and replaced it with a third party internet sharing product called winroute. No effect.

My conclusion is that it has to be something in the XP or internet explorer 6 sp1 for XP.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Digging further, the event handler messege belongs to
Microsoft Messenger 4.7.2009. I am not sure it has to do
with the problem or is another symptom of it, still it
happens when the problem does.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
