i have been having trouble installing a game i downloaded almost a year ago
(rise of nations) it has installed fine previously

I am getting cabinet file errors (.cab)

i have downloaded Advanced cab repair, repaired all the game cabs and tried
and it failed

so i decided to perofmr defrag and re build page file and do a chkdsk

did it through command line in windows (chkdsk that is) and it found errors,
so i stuck chkdsk /f to try the fix, it said to make one open up on next
boot, so it did, and it did its thing, i re build page file when i restarted
and set it as 748mb to 1024 mb and i then tried a fresh chkdsk in windows on
cmd and it came up with the same error after i performed the /f on the
chkdsk when i re booted (the error has something to do with Bitmap?) so i
thought what the hell i tried to instal the game again and a different cab
file ballsed it up, so i have given up, why wont this game work when i was
playing on it yesterday and needed to re install it today and i cant, also
whats wrong with ckdsk

is my hard drive knackered or on its way out?

it is a ATA133 maxtor 80gb second hand, bought it from a gd mate who
wouldn't rip me off with a shoddy disk but does it sound like this disk is
on its way out because of chkdsk constantly returning the bitmap error

if so its an excuse to get a SATA drive as my board supports it

and will let me have dvd-rw on ts own ide controller

any help on either of the topics

game and chkdsk would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Chris

when my hard drive gave up then computer would lock up when you saved any
think to disk,
sounds like its the program,
if you can do a defrag then test if by install some thing esle you know
works.
if thats ok then it,s not the hard drive
