XP Pro bogging down

Happy Holidays! My computer at work is a relatively new PC workstation with
XP PRO and IE6. No alterations have been made to it. My computer at home is
an older W98SE with IE5.5

Both recently started acting slow and balky. For example, I went to close
Word and I clicked the "x and it froze for about 10 seconds before it closed
it. Same kind of thing at both locations. They are not networked in any way.
I run SpyBot and Adaware on both weekly. I also run Cache and Cookie Washer,
and Norton's One Step Checkup weekly, as well.

The only thing in common that changes to them are automatic updates from
Norton or Windows Update. Is there a history here with any recent updates
causing this to happen.

Thanks!! LarryB

Hi,

I'm just a user but you haven't mentioned Defragmentation.. The slowing down
can be caused by the files being spread all over the disk and that will slow
you down a lot. Win XP has a defragger built in so it won't cost you
anything but there are faster and better one available. Go to your help
screen and input defrag and it will walk you through it.

Sone of the others give you a 30 day trial version. Try them out.
