XP Pro better than XP Home ?

Silly question ?
I'm running XP Home -without apparent problems- and i wonder what i would
get MORE if ever i change for XP Pro ?
Any opinion ?

Only if you have a network.
 
Hi,

The core operating system is the same. Differences:

- WinXP Pro will allow 10 inbound connections, Home only 5
- Pro has policy editors (useful in a corporate environment)
- Pro has IIS (useful if you build server apps)
- Pro can become part of a domain (another corporate use)
- Both use simple file sharing by default, but it can only be disabled in
Pro
- Firewall and file security between users is the same
- Encrypted file system is only available in Pro

If you need any of the benefits of a Pro system, then go with it. Otherwise,
most home users are happy with XP Home.

Adding to what Rick has said, if your computing interests are expanding and
you are piqued by Pride of Ownership, then by all means upgrade to Pro.
There are some programs, such as Virtual PC 2004, which run on Home but do
not receive MS support unless running on Pro. The Computer Management tools
are more extensive under Pro and Pro supports dynamic disks. If these are
areas that interest you, go for it. One consideration is, did Home come
preinstalled on your computer or did you purchase it retail? If you do not
now have a MS retail cd for Home, then owning a retail cd of Pro can come in
handy when needing to do things like running the system file checker and in
case of the need to do a repair install should things go awry one day.

Probably not.

XP Professional and XP Home are exactly the same in all respects,
except that Professional has a few features (mostly related to
networking and security) missing from Home. For most (but not
all) home users, even those running home networks, these features
aren't needed, would never be used, and buying Professional
instead of Home is a waste of money.

Also note that Professional allows ten concurrent network

The WinXP Home and WinXP Pro versions are _identical_ when it
comes to performance, stability, and device driver and software
application compatibility, but are intended to meet different
functionality, networking, security, and ease-of-use needs, in
different environments. The most significant differences are that
WinXP Pro allows up to 10 simultaneous inbound network connections
while WinXP Home only allows only 5, WinXP Pro is designed to join a
Microsoft domain while WinXP Home cannot, and only WinXP Pro supports
file encryption and IIS. (Oh, and WinXP Pro usually costs roughly $100
USD more than WinXP Home.)

Following the average opinion, i guess i don't REALLY need to move "up" ! So
i'll wait until something much better, like Windows 2005 or 6 comes out !
