XP Pro ate my offline files

I'm having a persistent, and very annoying, problem with client-side
caching/offline folders. I can't sync anything, or even force my machine
to go back online.

Server 1: cyclone (W2K SP3)
Server 2: blizzard (Mac OS X 10.2.6) running Thursby's (http://www.thursby.com) DAVE 4.0.2
Client is XP Pro SP1; drive w: is mapped to \\cyclone\work, s: to
\\blizzard\songs, p: to \\blizzard\pictures

Problem: I have updated files on the client in various subdirectories of
W: and P:. When I attempt to sync with either server, I get a dialog
that tells me that I have local versions of files that have been deleted
from the network. This is false, since the files I've added have never
been on the network. If I select "keep my offline version" and check the
"do this for every deleted file" checkbox, then allow the sync to
proceed, the sync fails; I get one "access to <filename> is denied on
\\cyclone\work\<subdir>" message for each file, where <subdir> is the
name of the new client-side folder where the new files are located.

I don't want to follow the steps in Q230738 because some of the files on
the client are irreplaceable, and I'd hate to throw them away. In the
past, I've tried creating the new subdir on the server and then syncing;
that sometimes resolves the conflicts but always causes the files to
disappear altogether. Any suggestions on how to fix this are welcome.

Cheers,
-Paul

Are you sure you have write permission to those directories at the
time you are syncing? It sounds like Windows isn't seeing that share,
thus why it tells you that files were deleted from the network...

One way you can keep the files is to work offline and copy the files
to a location on your system that isn't available offline (ie, your
hard drive)...

Yes, the account I'm using has write permissions to those directories.
For example, robichaux-dom\paul has Full Control on \\cyclone\work\ra,
which is one of the problem directories. \\cyclone\work\ra\security
book\submitted exists only on the laptop, where AFAICT it has correct
permissions.

Didn't think of that, but I'll give it a try. Then I can burn a CD,
stuff it into the file server, and do an old-school sync :)

Thanks,
-Paul
