Hi
I hope some1 can help. I have xp pro plus all updates on
Computer 1 and xp home plus all updates on Computer 2.

Both are plugged into a adsl modem router (Origo ASR
8400) using their network cards and rj45 cables.

Both computers can independantly access the internet, I
would like it to remain this way.

I would like to the computers to have read and write
control over a folder on Computer 2, this can be the
default shared folder in local settings/allusers/ or just
a new folder on the C drive.

I have heard that in order to do this you need to do
something to do with ip addresses and tcp/ip but i havent
a clue where to start.

Please help, many thanks and merry christmas.

Dave

Hi Dave,

There shouldn't be a need to configure any IP settings.
You DSL Router should be assigning IPs automatically
otherwise you wouldn't be able to reach the internet. Once
the shared folder is in place you should be able to browse
to it from the "My Network Places" icon on your desktop.

Check the network device on each computer and make sure you have ICS firewall turned off. This will keep each PC from "seeing" each other. BUT.... hopefully you have a router with firewall protection or some type of protection through your ISP.
