Hello all:

Here is my situation. I have been using XP Home since it
first came out and have since bought a new PC that had it
preinstalled. At the office, I have been using Win2000
and in order to access my network, need to VPN into the
domain. So, today I decided to upgrade to Pro and would
like to know a few things.

I understand that I will now be able to set this PC up on
my office domain and can sign-in the same way I do at the
office and then VPN into the network. Bamn - good. But
do I ALWAYS need to sign-in to the PC with my office
password, even if I want to use it for personal surfing,
etc. Or say, can I setup a profile and user for my wife
so she can choose her name and a password and sign-in on
her own? I just don't want her to have to sign-in using
my work password in order for her to go on and I would
like to set it up so I have a work user, and personal
user for myself and a user for her. Is this possible or
do I have it all off and if I set the PC up on my work
domain, I will always have to log-in to that domain from
the start.

Let me know!

THANKS!

Absolutely.
Matter of fact, that is the best policy. Use a personal login outside of
work. You never know what kind of security flaws will rear their ugly heads
next and possible expose your login information. That would make your work
network accessible to someone. So, it's best only to use your network/domain
login only when you need to.

Just open Computer Management. Right click My Computer and select Manage.
Expand Local Users and Groups.
Select Users
Right click the right pane and select New User
Fill out the info and click Create.
Create more than one account, if necessary. Then close the window.
You can then open the user properties and customize the account.
Being a local computer account, I would make the user part of the
Administrators Group.
That way you'll have no hang ups customizing the profile or installing
software.
