How??? I am also having the same problem and just
downloaded TweakUI. Now what do I do to stop the pop
ups? They seem to come from Windows Messenger -- tried
to uninstall the program but can't figure out how. HELP!

TweakUI perhaps...? Actually, I know for sure!

go into control panel, administration, services, scroll
down to messenger, start-up type: disble and service
status: stop.

Greetings --

Does the title bar of these pop-ups read "Messenger Service?"

This a type of spam has become quite common over the past few
months, and unintentionally serves as a valid security "alert." It
demonstrates that you haven't been taking sufficient precautions while
connected to the Internet. Your data probably hasn't been compromised
by these specific advertisements, but if you're open to this exploit,
you may well be open to other threats. Install and use a decent,
properly configured firewall. (Disabling the messenger service, as
some people recommend, only hides the symptom, and does nothing to
secure your machine.) And ignoring or just "putting up with" these
messages and the problem they represent is particularly foolish.

Not a good idea. Picture it this way - the Messenger Service popups are
your key that unwanted traffic is reaching your computer. The way to stop
that traffic is to install / enable a firewall. Once you do that, the
Messenger Service acts as your "canary" - if it opens up another window, you
know that something went wrong at the firewall, and you know to investigate
it.

Merely stopping the messenger service and disabling it is like shooting the
canary, rather than investigating the gas leak.

Echoing Shenan, it's good to note that at least one person managed to read
and make use of the responses we post several times a day on this issue.
