You don't mention which version of XP is being used as XP Home can only use
simple file sharing while it is an option in XP Pro but enabled by default
for non domain computers. If you are using simple file sharing them
"everyone" needs permissions for both share permissions and the folder NTFS
permissions and the guest account needs to be active. If you have disable
simple file sharing them the users that need access to the share would need
a user account on the computer with the shares that matches their
logon/password or they would need to know the credentials for a user account
so that they could enter them when prompted and the user accounts must use a
password by default. The links below may help further and it may help to
check the security log on the computer with the share to see if logon
failures are being recorded which would show the user name that is
attempting to access and the reason access was denied.
