Congradulations, you just jumped from one problem Windows
Operating System, (one of the Worst WinME) to another
Windows XP.
You can solve your problems by Formatting your Hard Drive,
and installing Windows 98SE. This way, you solve the
resource hog problems, and you will have a stable
Operating System. You will notice a huge increase in
speed of your computer too. This will negate the need to
buy a new computer! Try it, let me know what you think.
I have done this to several computers, and they would not
go back to either WinME or WinXP, and neither will you!
I wrote you an email addressing the issue where WinXP
allows such conflicts/sharing of resources like the IRQ's,
I/O Ports, and Physical Memory Addresses. In Win98SE, you
can uncheck the "Use Automatic Settings" in the Device
Manager and change them manually to ones that are free and
not being used. You may still have to share some IRQ's,
but never I/O Ports, or Physical Memory Addresses! WinXP
does not allow you to uncheck this box, as it is greyed
out, and to this day, Microsoft has not came up with a
solution!
