I recently upgraded (fresh install) to XP from Millenium
and my performance is worse, not better. I have a 1.7ghz
comp w/1gig ram. Performance meter is pegged at 98-100%,
paging at the top, too.

On ME, I could run 2 instance of a MMORPG, Dark Age of
Camelot, almost flawlessly. I could have a character on
one account 'stick' to a character on the second account
and run them around the world without coming 'unstuck'.
Now I can't go more than 10 seconds before they unstick.
As the land passes beneath a characters feet it becomes
jittery. Actually, alot of the game is just plain
jittery. The sound is trashed when I switch windows
(wasn't before)and appears to try to play the music from
both instances of the game simutaneously with only one
window current.

Any ideas?

I have reinstalled all drivers and programs.

Perhaps the game is not completely compatible with XP?
You can try running it in compatibilty mode.
Go to the Game folder and R-Click the game's executable file and choose
Properties.
Click the Compatibility tab and set it for 98/ME - see if that does anything
for you.

But you may also want to check this out:
Could also be lots of "Services" you may not need running.
Look here for what you may need and what you may not need.

There is a "Gaming" setup there you might try.
And be sure to check out the rest of his site.

Or look around here:

There's also here:

See if they can help you.

Thanks for the reply and info... Tried the Compatibility
mode ... no luck. Will check the sites you referenced. I
kind of have the problem figured out. Since I am running
to instances of the game in windowed mode, one window is
active, the second is not. When I choose to interact with
one character in one account, I switch to that account by
hitting a task bar thingy. What I think is happening is
that the hidden window is not getting enough processing
time/power. I found a switch somewhere that allows the
user to even out the foreground/background processing,
but then both accounts run horribly slow.

Hi,
In case you don't get around to those sites right away, try the following
and see if it helps.
One of the services that uses a lot of Processor power is the indexing
service, which is practically useless, as far as I am concerned. Basically
all it does is make searches faster - and slow down the PC.
Hit "CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up Task Manager, Click the Processes tab and look
for "CiSvc.exe" - if it is running that is "Indexing Service."
To turn that off Go to Start-->Run-->Type: Services.msc =Hit enter.
That'll bring up the "Services" window. Scroll down to '"Indexing Service."
Double click on it to open it. In the Startup Type box change the setting to
Disabled. Close the boxes, and restart.

Anyway, that is where the "Services" are located. Whenever you highlight one
it will tell you what each one does.
DO NOT EXPERIMENT IN SERVICES.
Black Viper has a chart that tells you what does what, and what is safe to
turn off. The other sites are good too.

Good Luck,
DocTa
