Hi all.

I have an issue with networking two XP machines that I'm
hoping someone can help me with before I throw both of
them out the window (no pun intended).

Essentially, although both machines are members of the
same workgroup, each only sees itself when browsing
Network Neighborhood or doing a NET VIEW.

These are two XP Home machines, which share the following
characteristics:

Both are on the same IP subnet, and both can ping each
other.

Both are members of the same workgroup.

Both are running NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

Both have the Computer Browser running upon startup.

This problem makes no sense at all, and I can't find
anything in the KB that's been helpful.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

Regards,

Joe

I had the same problem, so I just installed NETBEUI from the \Valueadd
folder on the XP cd. Everything popped up fine and I could still use one XP
machine as the host for Internet connection sharing. Not the most elegant
solution, but it worked.

You don't need NetBEUI. Do you have a account with the same username and password on each PC.

I would suggest turning the Browse Master function off on one PC. It is my
understanding that they have a tendency to fight over who is going to be the
"Browse Master" thus causing network problems.
