Hello,
We are running a small Windows 2000 network using 2
Domain Controllers, and have recently added some XP Pro
machines to our domain. When the XP Users change their
passwords, their accounts are locked out almost
immediately. We unlock the account for them and they soon
return to a locked state. We do not have these problems
with our Windows 2000 Professional clients.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg

Sounds like the old password is being cached someplace,
causing re-tries to connect and eventual account lockout.

Now, under norml circumstances, the only password most domain users would
supply would be the logon password at boot time. But it sounds like
perhaps there are mapped drives or similar using Alternate Credentials which
have been cached.

Use this info to clear out any old cached passwords:

Also, ensure ther's no other machine (like a laptop) still logged on under
the old password. This will cause this too.

I checked the settings as described in the article
listed
above. The only cached passwords are the .net and a
password for our Intranet. Even when I removed these, the
account still becomes locked out.
It looks like XP is remembering drive mappings from the
last logon. I think this is where the problem may lie.
These drives are mapped before the logon script executes.
Is there a way to turn off the automatic drive mappings
from the previous session?
Thanks

How many servers? I have seen an account get locked up trying to log on to a
particular server, and because the password has been changed, it gets locked
out. Only way to correct is try to figure out the last server they logged on
to and reboot it, or reboot all servers!
