I don't imagine that this is a unique problem. My 14
year old made himself the only administrator, changed the
password and can't remember it. What do I need to do to
get into the computer? Thanks!

Well I think if you hit ctr-alt-delete twice on the
welcome screen you can asscess the default Admin account.
( If it needs a password too you will have to contact the
person who installed XP unless you know what it is
already) Onve logged in under that account just update his
password and maybe take away his admin rights :)

Pat:
If you solved this problem can you let me know how? I sent
my laptop with Windows XP Professional to Dell and now the
password will not work. After 2 1/2 hours on the phone -
still no luck. I'd be very greatful for any assistance.

Pat;
Try leaving the password blank.

The password is Case Sensitive.
Check Caps Lock and try various of Capital combinations.

If you do not have a Password Recovery Disk, it is to late to make it.
Or
Log in to any account that has Administrator access.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.

Reboot to Safe Mode, select Administrator, leave password blank.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.
If you are using Windows XP Pro and have encrypted data, you may
permanently lose access to the encrypted data.

Here is another option:

Another option is to install Windows XP on another partition and take
Ownership of your data.
You could also perform another installation on the same partition,
although this is not a permanent fix and it is recommended to

perform a Clean Installation after retrieving your data.

After this is resolved, take precautions to not lose the password.
