A friend of mine uses Win XP, with a dial up connection to the internet.
Lately if he attaches an attachment to an outgoing email, the attachment is
not sent. I looked in his event viewer, and under applications during the
time he was trying to send the attachment, an error was recorded stating
that the mail program was not responding. He also mentioned that an error
popped up that said SMTP server could not be found. Yet during this time he
was able to send an email without an attachment, and it would be sent with
no problem. If he tried sending an email with an attachment, he would get
the SMTP error. Anyone have any ideas what I can check to see if there is a
problem, I looked today and saw nothing configured out of normal, and I was
able to send emails with and without attachments. I think maybe it was a
problem with the ISP mail server.
This problem got me thinking, is there any way to reduce the size of an
attachment, since he is on a dial up, large attachments can take a very long
time.
Another issue that started was when he is talking to someone using say Yahoo
or Microsoft messenger. He is able to send voice to the other end with no
problems, yet when he is receiving audio from the far end, sometimes it is
choppy and broken. If he is downloading or using the video portion, the
breaking up gets worse. Again I think it is his dial up connection is
limiting his bandwidth. Anyone know if there is any settings in XP that can
be used to tweak the download speed/bandwidth being accepted.
Thanks
