I have a virus and I want to re-install my XP OS. However, my OS
reinstallation CD is from 2002, it has service pack 1 on it. The problem is
my PC has service pack 2 (newer version), and the reinstallation CD won't
install that older version because of the newer.

Should I try removing the service pack 2 from the "add/remove programs" on
my PC, then try running the CD again?

Can't do anything in DOS, the virus kills my keyboard during the safe-mode
bootup.

Any suggestions?

No, don't Google slipstream. I'll tell you right here.

Okay. The first thing you need is a blank cd or dvd to burn the slipstreamed
version on. So make sure you have one.

Take your installation cd and copy all of the files from it to your
computer. Then download SP2 from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en.

Now download nLite, a slipstream program from nliteos.com. Start it up and
click next. Then specify the folder you copied your xp cd to, and press next.

Then, click service pack, then next. Specify the exe file you downloaded
from microsoft (SP2) after clicking on select.

Follow the instructions from there and it will slipstream it. If you got
your disk from Dell, it may generate errors. Tell me if that happens.

Then, you can make a cd using nLite, by using it to create an iso file and
then burning it to your cd.

Then you have your cd. Sorry if I wasn't clear, especially about the burning
part.

You are attempting to install incorrectly if you plan on doing a clean
install to rid yourself of a virus. You need to perform a clean
installation - in which case it would make no difference what you currently
have installed.

You need to BOOT from the CD, delete all partitions and create new ones and
format it.

Anything that uses her present HD to create a CD will ultimately have the
probability of being infected with the same virus

Chrissy,

Do you know what virus you have? Reinstalling the OS may not be necessary.

Ed Metcalfe.

No one has complained yet till now...
I didn't cross-post. I have (2) areas of concern.
1) Set-up/Deployment - to re-install XP SO/integrate/streamline service
packs, which was THIS original thread.
"and"
2) Security/Administration - trouble I'm having to remove a virus

My "answer" to Ed Metcalfe's question about thread 1), was my question for
thread 2).

I'm sorry, you must not have a credit identity problem, with credit card
files stored on your PC, being sent to wherever-everytime windows is logged
on.
I will post as many threads as I see fit to correct this situation - as my
PC has been hijacked by keyloggers. Especially, with outbound activity,
reported by McAfee, going to Harbin/Tokyo.
