XP on both - only one sees the other

Kevin

I have 2 computers I'm trying to network.

I'm fairly computer literate and have had both computers
networked before and sharing my DSL connection. (But
that was a while ago) Both computers are connected
through a hub and the hub lights indicate a good
connection. I am able to browse the files from one
computer (Old Computer) to the new computer (Hot Rod),
however "Hot Rod" is unable to view or even access files
on "Old Computer".

File access sharing is turned on for both computers. I
believe hardware is fine because I can manipulate files
from one computer to the other. "Old Computer" ==> "Hot
Rod" but NOT "Old Computer" <== "Hot Rod".

I hope you understand the problem I am having. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Kevin
Try this list to start

The problem is one or a combo of the following:

1. XP firewall needs to be disengaged
2. File sharing needs to be initialized
3. Workgroup name needs to be same on all machines
4. TCP/IP needs to be installed on all machines

What OS are you running on both?
Can you connect to web on both?
Are you running firewalls (ex. ZoneAlarm) on either?
