I have a computer running XP professional. It is connected
to a workgroup not a domain. I can connect to all the
other computers on the workgroup from the XP computer but
the XP computer cannot be accessed by the other computers
on the network. Does anyone know how I can correct this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Try to disable to firewaal on the LAN connection on the
XP machine. You should be able to see the machine on the
nework after this. Also try to ping the Xp machine from
the other computers. If the ping works, then the network
is working fine and you can start to look into an access
right issue (usernames and passwords)...
Hope this helps !

Hi
Can the other computers see the drives on the XP machine?
are the XP machine drives sharing turn on??
also check permissions

The most common cause is using XP's ICF, which will inhibit
F&P sharing on LANs; disable it forever. If you still want a
firewall (a really good idea), get something more flexible
than ICF, like one of the ZoneAlarm family (www.ZoneLabs.com).

If you are having trouble networking diiferent opertating
systems or your Win2K just isn't participating, try this.

In this case type ipconfig/all and check node type make
sure its not peer to peer.
If it is then edit this reg key to change it to either
broadcast, unknown, or mixed.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\NETBT\
PARAMETERS The values are:
1= broadcast
2 = Peer-to_Peer,
4 = Mixed,
8 = Hybrid.
Mine was peer to peer I changed it to Hybrid only because
that is what my XP was when I checked it. I got this from
www.pctechnicians.ca/help/workgroup.html it is a good
site. It has all the other stuff everybody else suggests
and some stuff they don't. It definitely helped me. My
wireless network is working excellent again.
