I'm having trouble uploading the pics I took. I have a 6 yr. old
Sony digital camera which stores pics on a floppy disk. I am able to view the
pics on the camera's LCD screen but my windows XP doesn't recognize
the data on the disk and wants me to "format the disk" (which I don't want
to do).

These pics are VERY IMPORTANT to me.

Any suggestions on how I can recover the pics onto my p.c.?

THANKS!

I appreciate your reply but Sony didn't provide me software of their own.
ArcSoft PhotoStudio v.2.0 came with the camera but it doesn't recognize the
pic files either. It tells me to format the disk. Do you have another
suggestion for me, please?

What is the camera model number? Did you read from the disk previously? What
is the format of the picture files (what is the extension)?

The disk might have gone bad. In which case you need to contact professional
data recovery people.

It is a Sony Mavica model MVC-FD7.
When I took the pics, the disk was not used previously.
The pics are a jpg file.
If I have to contact a professional data recovery company, do you have one
to recommend? I really can't afford an expensive cost.
THANKS

I have a Mavica and I can remember a
couple of times when I had to reinsert
the 3.5 disk in my floppy drive a couple
of times before WinXP would recognize
it. I think it's just the simple fact that
floppies are not always dependable...
especially if they are reused a lot.

There's a Mavica forum at the following
link...maybe you can find a solution there:

Hi John!
thank you for your suggestions. I have put my disk in the floppy drive
many, many times, hoping that it would work each time, but not. The floppy I
used is used once only. I have at least a hundred floppy disks with pics and
I never have re-used them by reformatting. I will use the link you supplied
and I hope to resolve my dilema. I appreciate your help!

There is a freeware tool called PC Inspector that does an excellent job
of recovering files from corrupted disks:

I have also used Smart Recovery to recover files from a corrupted
Compact Flash card:

Excellent software.
