Hi guys,

A friend of mine has a PC which he purchased last summer.
He is currently running Windows XP Professional. His
problem is when he tries to read a floppy disk, it always
tells him that the disk needs to be formatted. If he
formats it and then tries, it will still not read and
still asks for it to be formatted. I did some research on
the net, and posted a few topics at other forums. I
haven't found much, but a lot of people are saying it is
a common well known problem with XP. I remember a few
friends had the same issue when XP was first released,
but I can't remember what they did to fix it.

Thanks for any help!

Jay

It is common and happened to me too when I upgraded motherboard. I just had
to buy new floppy drives until I got one that worked.

Was the format Quick or Full? If it was Full format then I have no
explanation other that there is something wrong with hardware.

Similar problem here only my A Drive lists a filesystem
as either "RAW" or "Unknown" when a FAT formatted floppy
is inserted.Hardware tests check out fine and no
anomalies in the Registry that I can find.Other people
have had varying success in correcting this but in my
case the problem persists and is vexing.
