I have vista on one partion, XP on another and Fedora Core 4 (Linux) on
another.
I can Boot Linux from a CD and Vista from windows os chooser but can't Boot
into XP as it says that <Windows root>\stystem32/hal.dlll is corrupt and it
is. Where can I get another copy of it from?

Thanks for the help but the one problem is that I don't have the XP CD as the
computer came with a system restore.

Could you borrow a WinXP CD and get into the Recovery Console and do a
repair of the bootini.file.
The first URL has the steps to follow.

I think what you are saying is that your system was furnished with a system
recovery file instead of a CD. Sony, HP, and most others that use this
method tell you upon initial system setup to burn this recovery software to
a CD promptly. Did you?

Hi Tris123,
Your only Option is to Install your HDD as A Slave in another System have
the same Specs (i.e OS, hardware) and Copy the Corrupted files from the Good
Stable??? system to the slave HDD corrupted one then take the HDD drive back
to your machine and Attach it as Master and Boot and hopefully you will boot
up.
If not my advice get (BUY) a new HDD the same spec or better and Lots of
GIGs and Clean install, if you done back Up then you lucky try to Restore
after you install and Update, hopefully also you will not have the WGA stuff
screwing up things again for you?.
Rather than this you are wasting your time and get frustrated with something
have been screwing up your system and you didn't take the first AIDE Steps to
cure the problem.
Hope this helps
Regards
nass
