Hi all,
I have a strange error and hopüe someone could help me.
I have a small Network with two win2k PCs and a smc broadband router for the
internet access. DHCP is used.
Now I want to add a Notebook with WinXP, but it doesn´t retreive an
IP-adress from the router - BUT: the router´s DHCP-client-log shows the name
of the xp-machine and a correct IP-adress from the DHCP-pool.
On the xp-machine, ipconfig says IP-adress = 0.0.0.0. No ping is possible in
any direction. The problem stays the same when assigning a static IP-Adress.
So it looks like the XP-machine can send packets (e.g. when calling the
DHCP-server) but can´t receive anything. I´m pretty sure the xp-machine
isn´t running a firewall.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Hinrich

have you try to use static ip? try it first. if it works, remove the static
ip and try to use dhcp again.

as i mentioned: I did assign a static ip - same behaviour (no ping to other
pc possible, but in this case ping to own static assigned ip works)
