XP no longer "Professional" after SP2

After having strange problem crop up with my Windows XP Professional ver.
2002 w/SP1, IE6 - [calculator, volume control & audio recorder no longer
fuctional, and OE's large icon buttons ("Create mail", "reply", etc.) keep
getting wider till at times I can only see 2 or 3 of them at full screen...]
I've attempted upgrading to SP2, it resulted in an amateurish XP (no longer
"Professional") and wasn't able to access any URL... ended up uninstalling
SP2 which brought me back to the above issues... any thoughts?

Have you read any of the other posts about spyware, virus scanning etc...
and all the things you should do to clean up your system prior to even
attempting to install SP2? Did you do any of those things? What does "no
longer functional" mean, it helps to be more specific, like including error
messages. BTW, the "professional" tag was removed but it's the same o/s.

After SP2 the welcome screen no longer says "Professional" or "Home Edition"

If you display the "Help" > "About Windows" information you will see that
you still have Windows XP / Professional or Home Editison and SP2.

We had a Norwegian user complaining about SP2 in a similar way, eventually
it turned out that his Windows XP was so full of trojans and hijacking
routines
that his SP2 security blocked almost everything. His solution was to go back
to SP1 and let the intruders stay. That was much simpler than to clean up
his
computer!

But he (also) put the blame on SP2!
