Plun;
The intention is to delete these Beta newsgroups when the product goes
final.
The private newsgroups are not picked up by Google and others and thus can
be easily deleted from Microsoft servers without leaving orphan groups at
Google etc.

Well, Ive seen betagroups before within normal NG and I cant understand
why MSAS is difference ?

Plun;
This way it gives Microsoft more freedom to delete the obsolete newsgroups.
The old Beta newsgroups in the public are a problem.
Many are obsolete and should not be used.
But people still use them and expect something from Microsoft.
The private newsgroups are not on other servers so Microsoft can delete them
when Microsoft deems fit without being concerned about orphan groups on
other servers.
This change puts the newsgroup control for Beta and other similar programs
at Microsoft where it belongs.

The point is you don't want beta issues mixed up with normal product issues
that might end getting misused in answering questions properly. Beta
Error101 might be different from RTM Error101.

Well, I believe this is more about false/positives and lawyers and not
about MS freedom to delete obselete newsgroups.

Thats my personal opinion and nevertheless we have no answer to this,
No problem for me but maybe for the user who started this thread.

IMHO...... ;)

Andre;
When this goes Gold, the Beta licenses will expire and these newsgroups have
finished serving their purpose.
At that time people should migrate to the final product as well as the
proper newsgroups.

Beta issues in the other newsgroups and issues related to the final version
in these newsgroups will both be incorrectly posted.

At the point of final release, questions should be asked and answered in the
public newsgroups.
Whether a new newsgroup is created or the security newsgroup, that will be
the proper place for the released product, not here in these newsgroups
whose days are numbered at that time.
That is exactly what happened to the 64 bit newsgroups with only a few posts
in the last few weeks.

No that link doesn't look correct.

I am wanting to see a site like this one
with "new" "reply" etc but has windows XP on the left.

I'll try asking my question here.

Well, that is MS newsgroups home and MS want us to use
the web interface, looks awful to me when i check some threads.

Do this:

Start OE

Menu tools > accounts > add > newsgroup

name etc

news.microsoft.com
