XP networking problem

I have 2 computers, the main computer connects to the high speed internet,
the 2nd computer connects via Ethernet card to the main. Once a week or so
I spent hours trying to repair the connection. Sometimes I can connect to
the main computer and visa versa but the 2nd computer has a hard time
getting on the internet, I've enabled sharing and firewall. When I start
the internet connection there is rapid flashing at the bottom of the page,
looks like its trying to connect. I usually have to uninstall the cards on
both machines and start over, some times it works. The main computer with
XP has had the same problem same symptoms.
I'm not sure what else you might need, please let me know.

What kind of high speed internet? is there a hub your main plugs into? if so
is there another slot to plug the other computer into? if not sounds to me
like you need one(a hub) and soon, the more you screw with those settings
the more likely you will mess something up.

not a pro, just an observer...
