Ryan Roach

Please help me. I have a problem with what sounds so
simple. I have a desktop and a laptop. The desktop runs
XP media center and the laptop runs XP home. They both
connect perfectly to a wireless network (linksys wireless
b router) The desktop has a linksys wireless network
adapter, and the laptop has integrated g wireless. They
both connect fine. I used the network setup wizard on
both computers, though, and I cannot get them to talk. I
don't get it. I've run the wizard a hundred different
ways. I have dial up, and it would be nice to share the
internet connection, but I don't have to have it. I feel
like I've tried it all: letting windows configure, making
sure "guest user" is turned on, setting the IP addresses
manually...nothing works. I keep getting computers
with 'excellent' wireless connections that can't find
each other. I would GREATLY appreciate any hints- please
email them to me at (e-mail address removed)!!!

Thanks,
Ryan (frustrated)

at the command prompt type ipconfig/all for each machine and post here. I
then maybe able to help

Do you have a firewall running on either PC? If so,
disable it and see if that changes the outcome.

Ryan Roach--

This is Chad Roach--I have a brother Ryan, but unless he is
spending all his college money on computers I do not think
you are him. It seems two Roach's have the same problem,
but mine is with a D-Link router. I found the following
suggestions, although they have not yet worked for me:

1) right click on the LAN (or on the bridge), select
properties, then click on TCP/IP and click on properties
again, then click advanced and select WINS, then click
enable netbios. Make sure this is enabled.

2) right click on my computer and select manage. click on
services and applications, click on services and then find
computer browser. Make sure this has been started.

3) disable any firewall on the network...
I am still working on this--how do I disable without
becoming vulnerable.

If I find anything further, I will let you know,

Ciao,
Chad
