HELP!

Can anyone help me with setting up my home network? It
seams easy enough. I'm consider myself more knowledable
when in comes to computers(compared to the average joe).

So, why can't I get my home network to work?

Here's my setup. It ain't too big.

I have one desktop and one laptop. I also have one
printer--which I want to share. I'm connected to the
internet through a broadband modem. Then the modem is
connect to a Microsoft MN-500 Wireless Access
Point/Router. The laptop has a wireless NIC.

Now, I have used the Microsoft Broadband Network Utility
to share the internet connection(wirelessly)with the
laptop. The internet works fine. I also thought I could
share printers and files, etc.. also using the broadband
network utility.

So why can't I network the two computers? I can't share
files or printers--they don't even appear as network
devices in the utility window.

SO, I've spent ALOT of time on the horn with MS Broadband
Utility Support, only to be told it appears this may be a
XP network problem, and call them. Well, wait times was
40+ minutes!

I also ran the XP network wizard, thinking that may help
things. But both computers are still not networked.

I've tried pinging the IP address of each computer from
each other and the desktop is "timing out" trying to ping
the laptop.

Does anyone have any clues to what is going on? Is there
a conflict with utilizing both the XP Network Wizard and
the MS Broadband Network Utility?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

Greetings Chris

Make sure the XP's firewall is disabled. It is only intended for direct connections t
the Internet and must be disabled on local area networks. If you have installe
any personal firewall, make sure it isn't blocking access between the computer
on the network. Ensure NetBIOS over TCP/IP on all machines

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT

I was also having propblems getting XP to see machine running Windows ME, it was only after I loaded NetBeui protocol on all machines that things worked properly.

Best of luck

It is okay to use NetBEUI but it is never necessary. All networking
functions are available using only the TCP/IP protocol. If you install
NetBEUI on one machine, then use the same protocol on the rest and install
NetBEUI on them. NetBEUI is unsupported protocol in XP and Microsoft won't
give technical support with it.
