Tim

I just setup a wireless network card in a new winxp box.
I can ping to and from the new box on the private
network. I cannot however access the internet or ping any
public sites. What did I do wrong? Can someone help?
I'm a windows 2000 guy and this is driving me nuts.
Thanks,

T

Have you got your DNS settings set to Auto Discover on your modem/router?

Can you ping an internet site by it's IP Address?

yes, dns and dhcp are set to auto discover. i cannot ping
an internet site by its ip. but i can ping anywhere on
the private network and i can ping to the xp box.

sounds like dns issue. use nslookup to check the dns status and make sure
you have correct dns settings.

I'm not at the computer now so i can try nslookup but I
can ping the "Studio" computer upstairs by using : ping
studio . So it is resolving local dns but i can't ping
outside the network with an ip address or domain name.
Would running the home/office networking wizard cause
something strange like this to happen? Any other ideas?

Thanks again,

Tim

Can you post the results of "ipconfig /all"?

Also, can you ping the IP address listed as "Default Gateway" in the
ipconfig results?
