I am trying to network XP Pro to a Win ME. Both see each
other yet will now allow any files to be viewed. I keep
getting a permission violation message. All sharing is
enabled. Any ideas as to what needs to be done. I also
have another ME PC that shares fine with the first ME, but
also will not share with the XP....frustration

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)

Steve, I have the same kind of problem, only not with ME
but with 98 and XP.
I have followed your solution, and guess what: it
worked ... for about 30 seconds. Then the same error
showed up again.
Now I am getting really helpless. What to do??????

Regards Marcel

Please post a news group reply with more information, Marcel.

What worked? What didn't work? What exactly were you doing? Which
computer got the error? What exactly did the error message say?
