I have two new xp family sony computers. I set up the
network and only one computer can see the other. When I
go in the reverse direction it states the other computer
is not available. You might not have permission to use
the network resource. The network path was not found. I
went into the control panel and into explorer and set up
the shares with the drives. what can cause the problem
in which I can send files from computer a to b but not
from computer b to a in the opposite direction. I set up
my third computer and there is no problem except for the
one computer that can see the others but the others do
not have accessibility to this one. I am stumped.
Please send a hint.

I've written a web site that should help you solve the problem:

Windows XP Network Troubleshooting
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot

Please pay particular attention to these sections:

1. Firewalls: Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection
Firewall on local area network connections -- it's for use only on a
direct modem connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all
other firewalls while troubleshooting.

2. Protocols: Use only one for File and Printer Sharing. If the
network needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing
from all but one of them.

3. NetBIOS over TCP/IP: Make sure that it's enabled on all computers.
