Holly

I just set up a home network between 2 computers running
XP Pro with a Netgear wireless router. I finally got the
network up and running, but on my event viewer system log
I had this error:
The master browser has received a server announcement
from the computer HOLLY that believes that it is the
master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_
{64D4F692-BC7C-4674-BA1. The master browser is stopping
or an election is being forced.

The source was: MRxSmb

Does anybody know what this means and if I need to do
anything about it?

Thanks!

No need for action - it's normal.
You could change it, but that means editing the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browse
r\Parameters
"MaintainServerList"="No"

on ONE of your PCs

Bernie

can you see each other on my network places? If you can access each other
you don't need to do any thing. If you do have difficulty to see each other,
try to stop computer browser on HOLLY. post back with the result.

The computers can see each other on My Network Places, so
I guess I just won't mess with it. Thanks!

Holly,

If you leave this issue of the Election alone you will
continue to have event log errors. The best thing to do is
to edit the registry like Bernie has stated.

Ashley

thanks for the feedback.
