I have 4 PCs running 98, Me, XP Home and XP Pro.
On my home network, 98 can see Me and Home.
Me can see 98 and Home.
Home can see 98, Me and Pro.
Pro can only see Home.
Any clues how I can get Pro and 98 to communicate?

All versions of Windows can network with each other. These tips
should help you get it working:

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)

Thanks Steve - I'll give it a try tonight. Phil

I am having the same problem, but I am trying to network 2
XP Pro machines using a Linksys hub. I have tried the fixes
listed below to no avail. Soemtimes the machines can see
each other in the workgroup, sometimes not. But I can never
access both machines through the shares. I have another
network running 2000 machines and have no problems with a
workgroup network. What is up with XP?

Installing NetBeui on the XP Pro machine fixed the
original problem. You need to copy 2 files from the XP
Disc - search Microsoft knowledge base for XP and Netbeui
for instructions (article 301041).
