Right click on "All Programs", select Open. Snag all the shortcuts you
don't need and hit the delete key.

Or create new folders and drag existing shortcuts into them - have a
'freeware' 'games' 'graphics' ' utilities' etc. That way you keep
everything but it all gets neatened up.

It would be better to unnstall all the programs you don't need, using
Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. Just removing the shortcuts from
the All Programs menu leaves the programs installed, occupying hard
drive space and bloating the registry.

Yea! I was assuming the programs were already uninstalled and a bunch of
start menu shortcuts had been left behind. :)

Assuming you'd like to keep your programs, just reorganize the menu by
categories.
Go to

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Start Menu\Programs\

and make some folders like "Internet," "Media," "System," and "Utilities"
and then move the other folders (some of which are in the All Users
account) into them. You can of course also make subfolders like Media |
Audio and Media | Video, depending on how much stuff you have.

Problem solved.
