I've switched to DSL 3mbps. And normally it's easily over 1.7 mbps download all
the time.

That's what I see on the speed tests if I use it while downloading something.

I've hit some sites that I did better at 56k. bytes seem to trickle at 54 bytes
per sec or slower>

And right now I'm at a web site that could definitely benefit from the
preloading images html option.

I'm just curious is this something normal for DSL, or is the memory clogging
with un cleared garbage ?

I have a P4 dual processor 3.2ghz 1 gig ram. and HD is a 159 gig Sata. Speed
hasn't been an issue off line for anything.

Even my own web site crawls at times. I've seen the NG's also crawling making
me kick myself for switching to DSL.

I'm just wondering if the OS has a problem with garbage collection or freeing
memory ? The task manager shows a 400+ meg page file, and CPU usage is steady
around 2-10%.
Available memory is reporting 453,856 megs system cache 612,864
Kernal memory at 92,276 paged, and 32,884 non paged.

Download speed is not only limited by your computer and line, but also on
the server and how badly it is loaded at the time.

Not going to believe what fixed it...

in my network connections, the DSL stuff is all labeled
1394 connection3
local area connection3

I assume this is how that stupid Bell disk that never finished installing
screwed everything up.

I renamed them dropping the 3 on both. rebooted, almost instant on [acquiring
the isp] and speeds are at 3mbps
page loading was almost instant on at that trashy site.
UNBELIEVABLE !!!!

Then again the reboot itself would have cleared memory of all garbage the OS
wasn't effectively releasing. 6 of 1 half dozen of another. Won't know till I
hit another poorly designed website.
