XP Media Center 2004(Motherboard and Video cards)

Are there any ways to find out(without ripping the sides off) what type and
model of motherboard I have?

Does anyone one know just how far you can upgrade the video card too with
this HP Pavillion M300y? Present Card is Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 but seem to
have problem with jerky video when recording and no sound. Thought maybe it
went bad. P4, 3Ghz, 1GB RAM. Updated Driver from Nvidia to no avail.

Or would it be better to just go the PCI Express route and build a new puter
for graphics and video copying?

Opinions are welcome!
 
Do you want the good news or the bad news!

All HP's motherboards are customized specially for them, (crippled or
mutilated is a word heard more often than customized!)

In your case, according to this site it once originally was based on the
Asus A7V8X-LA...but that board mentioned is an Athlon XP CPU, not a P4
so.....

If we look at just the GL6E part, it could also be a customized ECS L4S5MG3
or an MS-6577 M-ATX Rev. 3.1. I'll rule out the ASUS P4GV-LA because it
has no AGP slot and just integrated graphics, but I have to rule in the ASUS
P4SD-LA

Now you have the information on which it could be, see if you can find out
the chipset by downloading, installing and running Everest from
www.lavalys.com and it may be that it gives you a motherboard manufacturer,
in which case you can rule some of the above out.... and start researching
deeper by which chipset you have and therefore work out which board you have
by that means!

Depends on the PSU as to how far you can upgrade the graphics card... The
6xxx and 7xxx series by nVidia need quite a lot of power and a separate
power lead.
 
Thanks Cari, Must have the Asus board then, since the chip is Intel P4SD-LA,
I have alot of ASUS drivers embedded deep within the recesses of this grey
box. so in order for you to be kind you are saying let it do what it can, but
build one that can be customized, since also I probably will want two
graphics board sometime in the future. I appreciate your info! Anyone have
any idea on the sound problem?
 
If you've got a spare PCI slot, I'd disable the onboard and go for an Audigy
2 (or 4 if you're rich) Creative Labs card. Great audio.

First try looking for audio drivers from the Asus website.... and see if
they might do the trick.

Well I found that there seems to be dual P4's, I can't seem to locate a
motherboard setup with these any additional info you can think of? Is there a
way to update the BIOS, or will that not help? see info below:
