I have a NT 4.0 server that houses a directory containing over 1,000 jpg
image files. Windows 98 clients can access the directory very quickly,
however a PC with similar hardware as the 98 machines was recently wiped
clean and Windows XP was installed on it is extremely slow when attempting
to view the contents of this mapped network drive. Is there any way to
improve the performance on the XP machine when trying to access the network
drive? Does it have something to do with XP trying to create thumbnails of
the images or something everytime it opens the directory? We're not using
the thumbnail view or anything, and it's slowest when accessing the drive
from a Save or Open dialog box from within an application. Thanks
