Hi,

Some friends of mine are losing their Internet Protocol settings with
Windows XP. They connect the computer via Ethernet to a Motorol 5100 SB
Cable modem. Any assistance would be appreciated. Please email
(e-mail address removed).

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Hi
When connected directly to the a Cable Modem the IP is furnished by the
Internet service provider (ISP), and in many cases authenticate by the MAC
address of a specific computer, if another computer with another MAC address
is used it would not obtain an IP.
As a first step they should contact the ISP to make sure that their
connection setting is configured correctly.

Hi thanks for your reply. The service was working until the settings were lost. So I am certain it was configured correctly. Also when re-entering the ISP supplied settings the service works again. Is it a bug in windows?
