I just spent the whole day loading programs and migrating old email folders,
etc. I did this as the "administrator". I did create another user, but did
not do anything under this logon. I had to restart the computer to install a
program and now I can't logon as "administrator". I only have the option for
guest and the other logon I created. How do I get onto the original
administrator? This other logon does not have any of my folders in OE etc.
Please tell me I have not wasted my entire day!

For XP Pro, at the Welcome Screen, press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice. You'll get the old Win2K style logon dialog. You can also see my web site, www.dougknox.com and go to the Windows XP section. Follow the link for Enable Administrator Account ......

This small VB Script will make the registry change necessary for the Administrator account to be available on the Welcome Screen. If you prefer to do it manually, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList\

Note: There is a space between Windows and NT in the above Key.

Add the Administrator account if necessary and/or change the Administrator value to 1

The above will NOT work for XP Home. For XP Home, you can only log into the built in Administrator via Safe Mode. See Help and Support for more information on Safe Mode.
