Hello all.

One of my users switched his XP Pro machine from a domain to a workgroup.
Now when he reboots it prompts for a username and password like always but
not letting him login. I suspect that all the users that logged into that
machine [its a laptop] all had domain logins and nothing is local.

I can access the hard drive by using the windows 2000 recovery console, but
I need to setup a new user or add a local user with admin rights to the
machine. Any suggestions on how to get back into this XP Machine?

Cheers

Mark,

there is at least built in Administrator (ok and Guest) account. You can't
delete built in account (but you can rename them). Try to guess local
administrator password (try with blank)...

Good luck...

Tried that. The admin password isn't blank unfortunatley and it's differnet
from the domain password. The guest account is disabled.

Cheers

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ Like Ivouch said, try the Change NT
Pwd. I used this in school (for bonus marks on an exam) and was able to
crack Win2k Pro, 2K server and a DC. I have used this several times and it
even allowed me to reset my account after I was locked out!! Here is the
link to the app, but make sure you read the instructions on how to use
rawrite to make the floppy.
