In reviewing recent postings, it appears as though many of us are having the same problem. I have a cable modem (Comcast ISP) connected to a Linksys 8-port switch. The switch acts as a firewall and DHCP server for a local network of three Win2000 workstations, one XP Pro workstation, and one XP Pro Laptop. I also have a wireless access point connected to the switch and a wireless PCMCIA card for the laptop. I have shared files and printers among all of these nodes for about 2 years; wired and wireless(recently); this included WinME, Win2000, and most recently WinXP. I used some of the recent updates for XP (including SP1 and SP1a) on the laptop and suddenly I cannot connect it to any of the other computers, but the Internet access works fine. The network connection 'BRIDGE' did appear at one point, it has been disabled and removed, I have deleted all network connections and reinstalled them, I have attempted to use only the wired network connection, I have attempted to use only the wireless connection

I have searched the knowledge base and attempted many of the suggestions in it with no success. Among the
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 318030, 304040, 29935

SYMPTOMS
1. In 'My Network Places' old shares appear, but under the 'Computer' column the word 'unkown' is listed.
2. When I click on 'Computers Near Me' only the laptop is liste
3. When I click on entire network, the workgroup is shown, but only the laptop's name is liste
4. When accessing printers, I can see the printers listed, but cannot print to any of them
5. On the other computers the laptop is listed, but when attempting to access it the error message: "\\Nodename is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resourece. Contact ... The network path was not found." is displayed

In the Nework Wizard log: %SystemRoot%\nsw.log, I see the following errors 'Failed to share Printer: ...' One entry for each printer shared by the computers on the network. Then the log stops. I have seen an error message when attempting to run the wizard and forwarded that to Microsoft

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have been bashing my head against this problem for about 72 hours now

Thanks

pj

This cannot work with a single public IP address.

Unless you mean you have a Linksys Router/8 port switch.
In that case see the later reply to your fellow comcast
user.

Hans-Georg,

I can't thank you enough! What a relief. I began reading the Networking Problems page to which you sent me and I had tried those things before ... then I read the ipconfig/all and found my node was set up as a peer-to-peer. I edit the registry and deleted the DHCPnodeType key, rebooted, and was able to rejoin my workgroup and share resources once again.

Thanks again,

pj

pj,

you're welcome, glad that it works, and thank you for reporting
this. It's good to get such feedback and confirmation.
